Gage & Tollner, the landmarked oyster and chop house in Downtown Brooklyn, originally opened its doors in 1879. Under current ownership since 2021, it has swiftly reclaimed its status as the "very famous restaurant in Brooklyn," once again standing as a beacon in New York City's culinary landscape. Warm, professional service has been the hallmark of Gage & Tollner for 140 years. Our new Service Manager will play a pivotal role within our compassionate, intelligent, and hard-working team, driving the continued success of our business. The Service Manager will uphold our longstanding tradition by overseeing every aspect of floor service at Gage & Tollner. Responsibilities include supervising daily operations of the dining area, from seating arrangements to table service and guest interactions. Collaborating closely with the general manager, the Service Manager will train and supervise service staff to deliver exceptional customer service and maintain our high standards of professionalism. Maintaining a positive and collaborative work environment is paramount, as is effective communication of information throughout the team. The Service Manager will foster teamwork and motivation among staff members, embodying a results-oriented, team player mentality. Handling guest inquiries, concerns, and feedback with tact and efficiency is essential to ensure a positive dining experience for all patrons. As a member of the management team, the Service Manager will serve as an ambassador to the restaurant, demonstrating sound judgment, providing honest feedback to colleagues, and actively building trust with stakeholders. Daily sidework, including opening and closing procedures, will be expected. Qualifications for the role include: Proficiency in reading, speaking, and understanding English, with the ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Food Handler’s Certification or the ability to obtain it in accordance with relevant regulations and/or company policy. Familiarity with restaurant management software such as point-of-sale systems, reservations management, and inventory management, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to maintain professionalism and composure under pressure in a fast-paced and occasionally stressful environment. Knowledge of workplace safety procedures and local Department of Health standards. Physical demands of the role include well-paced mobility for up to 12 hours per day and up to 60 hours per week, frequent use of stairs while lifting and carrying heavy items, prolonged periods of standing at a workstation, and the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. The salary range for this role is $65,000-$70,000 depending on experience.
